🚀 5 Reasons Why You're Not Creating (and what you can do about it)

You have more time than you think!

Hey everyone - JP here again for Week 3 of the Creator Chronicle!

Big news - we now have 8 creator interviews up on our website!

If you haven’t had a chance to read them yet, head over to Creator Exclusive to take a peek! We’ve got 2 more great stories coming next week (including a former Bachelor contestant) so keep your eyes peeled 👀

This week I wanted to try something different with the newsletter. I’m still going to bring creator news, deep dives, and more to your inbox - but this week I thought we’d get personal.

So many people want to get started in the Creator Economy (or anything in life really - be it entrepreneurship, sports, or hobbies) but they keep telling themselves that they can’t, due to a variety of reasons.

Today I wanted to share 5 objections I’ve heard along the way (and even thought myself), and introduce a way to reframe your mindset to overcome these self limiting beliefs.

The 5 Horseman of Content Creation

#1) SELF-DOUBT

You think you don’t know what you’re talking about, your content won’t resonate with your followers, or you won’t be able to make your content good enough.

REFRAME: Every single content creator starts in the same place - at 0! You are unique, you have your own unique voice, and it is guaranteed that you will improve over time. Trust the process.

#2) LACK OF EXPERIENCE

You think you don’t have enough knowledge or expertise to confidently or properly talk about your niche. Absolute rubbish.

REFRAME: This is an opportunity to gain that experience and LEARN. You won’t know unless you try. Your authenticity, your personal vulnerability, and willingness to learn can be compelling to your audience.

#3) LACK OF TIME

School…work…family…leisure…life… it takes up a lot of time. I feel you on this one.

REFRAME: This is one where you really have to take responsibility for your goals. If it is a priority - you will MAKE TIME. If not, you will continue to watch mindless TV shows on Netflix for a few hours, instead of making that next TikTok video that could make you $$$.

#4) NO MONEY AND NO TECH

This is a big one. A lot of people think it costs a ton of money or you need the latest & greatest tech to get started in the Creator Economy.

REFRAME: All of the successful creators I’ve interviewed hardly use any fancy tech. They almost all use their iPhones to capture videos and CapCut (free) for editing. You also can start any social media account for 100% free of charge - and the potential tor grow your audience is limitless.

#5) I DON’T HAVE ANY CONTENT IDEAS

Every single idea has been taken… really? You can’t think of one?

REFRAME: YOU ARE THE CONTENT. Your life, your experiences, your story is incredibly unique - it belongs to no one but yourself. I guarantee that there is someone out there who wants to hear what you have to say. And if there is 1, there is definitely a 2nd person, and a 3rd, and a 4th…

So there you have it. You can make as many excuses as you want to not start, but at the end of the day the only person you’re fooling is yourself. You can do this.

Let me know if you used to have doubts and overcame them - I’d love to hear from you!

Creator Exclusive Weekly Interview … with MaryTheAnalyst

An excerpt of our interview with the full time Data Analyst & TikTok personality MaryTheAnalyst…

Hey Mary! What advice do you have for aspiring content creators?

The best advice I have for aspiring content creators is to start now and be consistent.  Being a content creator was something that I had wanted to do for years.  I loved the idea of being my own boss and making money for sharing my ideas.  My main obstacle was myself.

I was so nervous to post my first TikTok video – I remember sitting with my phone in my hand for about 30 minutes debating whether or not I should click “post”.  Now, my only regret is that I didn’t start sooner.  Don’t worry if your first 5, 10, or 50 posts don’t go viral.  Viewers value consistency, so try to post at least once per day when you’re getting started.

Building a brand around authenticity is the best way to get followers (and brand deals!).  I found it helpful to create a moodboard for my brand to help me create a concrete vision for my content.  It’s important to create material that is consistently aligned with your brand’s vibe.  You want to make sure that your viewers, other brands, and TikTok’s algorithm knows exactly what type of audience you resonate with.

Thanks for reading everyone!

If you could, please let us know what you enjoyed (or didn’t) with a very quick reply to this email.

We’ll catch you next week - until then, keep creating!
